I don’t know if tanan tawo diri sa Cebu have actually heard of the Ciudad Cebu Project. Well, as for me, nakabalo na ko ani since it went public about 5 years ago. Why not? This project was very controversial (and is still controversial). Since it went public it is all over the news, from print to radio to television. However, amidst all those kasikas, I didn’t really know what Ciudad Cebu Project is. I bet I am not the only one sad nga nangutana kung unsa jud ni siya. There are many unanswered questions. Is it a mall? It is a hotel? Is it a commercial building? Is it condominium?
Fortunately, last November 27, 2011, my friend (especial shout-out to Maria Caridad Satorre!) invited me to attend a small talk regarding Ciudad Cebu Project. It was held at You Restobar in One Mango Place and hosted by the developer--- FIFTH Avenue Development Corporation. There was no political tone on that discussion (which was good because I already have enough of the GMA drama), but it was purely centered on the facts regarding the Project.
Based on what I have gathered that night, I don’t understand now kung unsa ang mawala sa Cebu if the Ciudad Cebu Project will come into reality. It will be one of its kind! Believe me. It will have a hotel, a museum, a shopping mall, and a recreation center in one place. It will also have movie theatres, restaurants, etc! If your wondering kung unsaon pagbuhat aning tanan? Let me tell you this. You see, Ciudad Cebu Project will have 2-4 buildings on an approximately 2.8 hectares of land. It will be built on that land fronting Cebu Country Club. The Project will have up to 650 microshops. It means jobs for the Cebuanaos. According to the developers, it create at least 2, 800 jobs. For me, this will be the most important contribution of the Project because kabalo man ta nga grabe ang unemployement rate nato today.
Ciudad Cebu Project will also further boost the tourism of Cebu. Why? It will showcase our beautiful tourist spots, which will give tourists some sort of preview on what they can see on our municipalities, cities, and towns. Sa akong imagination, it will look like big post cards that will arouse the interest of tourists to visit these places and see the bigger picture.
What’s more interesting about the Ciudad Cebu Project is on how they will build it. Do you know that the buildings will be like replicas of 18th century edifices? It means that walls will be made of stones and granite rocks, terra cotta for the roof, and capiz shells for the windows. You might also be interested to know that the security guards will be dressed like guardia sibil. Now, did I say that it will be one of its kind?! A first in the Philippines!
So, let the Ciudad Cebu Project starts now!
By the way, comments and reactions are highly welcome!!!
